The Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to 10 members of Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of San Mateo and Northern Santa Clara Counties at its 41st annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held May 14 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Foster City. Limited English Proficiency residents, medically fragile individuals, low-income families, and many others also depend on their trained and trusted local service providers to survive — before, during and after a disaster. The award winners, city of residence, and length of membership in the volunteer program are: * John Bird, Foster City, 14 years. The organization, Jones said, “offers a fear-free, empowerment-based curriculum that helps you become prepared and ready to respond at little cost.” She offered several tips, including having cash available on your person, at home, or wherever because, if a disaster occurs, ATMs may not be usable. That being said, I can totally imagine these lovebirds getting back together.Nina Dobrev's bubbly optimism and spirit just seems to slot right into the sometimes serious Somerhalder jigsaw puzzle.Dewey’s commercial bakery has become a premier crafter of premium cookies and crackers and an emerging national brand in the natural/specialty and mainline grocery channels under both the Dewey’s and Salem Baking Company brands.Established in 1930 in Winston-Salem, NC, the high volume retail bakery has served families in the area for over four generations, and is still known today for its Moravian Sugar Cake, a specialty coffee cake with Old World origins dating back three centuries.More outlandish chatter around the far-flung forums of the internet even suggest that Dobrev and Somerhalder are heading on a romantic summer tour of Europe, although I can find absolutely no evidence this is true. When rumors like these surface about Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, I often think it stems from an inability to separate their real lives and on-screen passionate love affair.
The following volunteers were presented a pin and certificate for their years of dedicated service to the community: * 25 years, Paula Corona, June Knox, Angela Owen, and De Witt Samora.
Jones explained that the organization provides emergency preparedness and disaster response resources for nonprofits, faith organizations, and community agencies serving our most vulnerable residents: seniors, children, people with disabilities, and the homeless.
To spotlight the impact of volunteers in our cities, letters and certificates of recognition were received by the honorees from various national, state, and county legislators. Ana-Marie Jones, executive director of Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disaster, a nonprofit agency based in Oakland, was also a guest speaker.
Deborah Owdom, volunteer program coordinator, welcomed 280 people to the event that is a program of The Corporation for National & Community Service, locally sponsored by Mills-Peninsula Health Services and its Senior Focus.
Each received a personalized certificate, a signed letter of congratulations by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a note from President Barack Obama, and an official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin.
